The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
