Two Victims Revealed in Brown University Incident as Authorities Continue Hunt for Perpetrator.
Both young individuals who died in Saturday’s mass shooting in Providence were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their killer persisted following the discharge by authorities in Rhode Island of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.
Tributes for Ella Cook
Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a gathering on Sunday.
Her role included second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, the group said. The White House press secretary also shared condolences publicly, remarking: “Words cannot express. Remembering her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”
An International Student
The second fatality was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, according to relatives.
The victim's identification was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He had big dreams of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a tribute.
What Happened
An additional nine individuals were hurt in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.
Officials stated on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male taken into custody in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.
“A perpetrator remains free,” said Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

A group leader, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the organization. “She was famed for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and peers,” he said.
An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the student's death in a message. “We extend our sincere condolences to Mr Umurzokov’s family, loved ones, and peers and mourn the loss of his potential.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the country's seventh most historic college with about over seven thousand undergraduate and postgraduate students, happened during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in the current year, according to data. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
