Unveiling an Bizarre Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have discovered numerous interesting creations from small studios. But, one stands out for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game includes a hero that is literally a turd trying to navigate to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."
How you interact is straightforward: press a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty stages, encounter tough enemies and visit a market to purchase skins for your fecal avatar.
Time your jumps carefully, as a mistake requires beginning again. Leap off floating orbs to propel yourself to new heights, traverse fragile platforms, and activate switches to unlock new areas. Gather coins and use them on challenging levels in which things gets crazy.
In terms of design, the demo shows off eye-catching stages and an amazing music score. The simple art featuring moving basic polygons could recall gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's difficult to recall previous releases where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment have long included fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, this theme shows up extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.
Despite its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, such as being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is available now on Steam, with the full game planned to arrive on computers on November 19.
